Parents

Dear Parents,

I have children, too, and I know that as big and old as they get, they are still your kids. Please know that we are going to be conscious of them and their well being during this trip. We cannot promise perfect safety any more than you can. What we do promise is that we will do all in our power, including things that you would probably consider extreme, to keep them safe and bring them home to you in good condition.

  • Leadership
    • My wife and I are veteran missionaries, having served in Trujillo and Tumbes, Peru and in Quito, Ecuador for 8 years.
    • I am a full-time faculty member of GCU, teaching Christian Worldview, Cross-Cultural Communication and missions.
    • Bryan Lamca is our son and a staff member at GCU and is CPR certified. He speaks Spanish fluently and will be leading your student from GCU to LA to Peru.
    • Matthew Lamca is our son and is a student leader at GCU. Matthew is a nationally certified EMT and speaks Spanish fluently. Both he and Bryan grew up in Trujillo and know the area.
    • Erica Horton is a teacher at an elementary school in Phoenix. She speaks some Spanish and has served in Mexico and Northern Ireland as a short term missionary. She will be leading the students back from Peru.
  • Travel
    • US Flag Airlines. Our carrier for this trip is Continental/United. By the way, we are not scheduled to be on any 737′s on this trip.
    • Connection for this flight is in Houston.
    • Quality Bus Service. We will use Transportes Linea. I have ridden Linea many times and it is as good as it gets with safe busses and trained drivers.
    • Contracted Local Busses. We will be contracting with a man I know for local transportation in Trujillo.
  • Lodging
    • Your student will be staying someplace safe and clean. It will not likely be plush, but it will be safe.
    • They will not be camping, or “roughing it.”
  • Food
    • No “Bizzare Foods” episode here! They may not eat the way they do when they are with you, but the will be eating safely.
  • What if…
    • We are working with a top travel insurance company for coverage. If your student does become ill or injured, they will be cared for in the best way possible, even if that means that the insurance company flies them home early.

One of the things that might be difficult is communication. You will not hear from your student every day, but we are encouraging them to journal so that they can share the experience with you and those who contributed to their journey. They will be able to email you when they have arrived in Trujillo. We will also have them email the day before we leave.

I am going to give you my phone number but ask you to use it only in case of emergency. I will not be answering it, but I will check the messages every two days. The number is 602.334.4839  As you can see, it is a US number but I can and will check the messages.

Thank you for making this possible for your son or daughter. I hope it will positively change the way they see the world.

Chip Lamca
