Luis Gomez is the tall man, leaning against the van. He is the pastor of Iglesia Bautista Estrella de Belen (Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church). He and his church have been ministering on the hillside that overlooks the Bay of Acapulco. The people with whom they minister may look down at the hotels that line the costera, but most will never enter them unless it is to cook or clean. Luis will be joined this week, by members of South Peoria Bapist Church and First Baptist Church of Avondale. The two Arizona churches will be helping with Vacation Bible School. Rather than have one large event, the vision is to reach people where they are in 8 home based groups that they expect will reach about 140 children.
The Arizona contingent, led by pastors James Hayes and Numa Gomez, arrived on Tuesday. They will spend today getting their bearings and meeting with the local church leadership. VBS will kick off on Thursday.
